We spent one afternoon taking the tour of Alcatraz. It has been a long time since we have been there, and the tour is different, but improved. We took the quick boat ride over,
and had a great tour guide that gave all kinds of interesting information. What an amazing history that island and jail have!
The tour inside the jail is a walking tour and the boys thought it was really great.
It takes you through all of the cell blocks, cafeteria, visitor's quarters, cell yard, etc. and uses first-person narrative from former inmates to describe what it was like and tell their stories.
I don't think Britton wants to stay here...
It told the true story of the escape that "Escape from Alcatraz" is based on. Amazing!
The inmates had a beautiful and torturous view of San Francisco and the world that was going on without them.
They said, "If you broke the rules, you went to prison. If you broke the prison rules, you went to Alcatraz". It was the worst of the worst. But the tour is great!
