Our next stop was in a small town called Gridley, California, where my mom and her family grew up. Gridley is a beautiful town in a beautiful area and we had a great visit. My grandpa built the home in this picture, which boasts the biggest Oak tree in Gridley.
Here is the tree from back down the street. My mom and even her grandparents lived in Gridley.
My grandpa also built many other things in Gridley. This was the next house he built that they lived in. He also built a church on the site where we went to church on Sunday. It was fun going to church somewhere else and meeting people who had known my uncle, grandpa, and who told me their fathers had worked for my great-grandpa.
We drove by the high school (Go Bulldogs!) and the 4-H club was having a BBQ dinner fundraiser, so we supported them and had a great dinner that we took to the park. The whole town was very friendly and happy!
We bought and enjoyed some of the best mandarins and almonds we've ever had. The people growing them call them "aamonds" instead of "almonds". When I heard them say that I had a flashback of my Grandpa Tolley telling me that they call them "aamonds" because they "beat the L out of them". :)
A couple of my boys said they love Gridley and would like to move there!
